BMI...why to take yours with a huge pinch of salt

The past few weeks have been full of paradigm shifts.

Different ones for different people.

Louise from "This Life Health" and I have scanned a load of fitmums.

To help them REALLY see what's going on with their bodies.

I have to share one with you...

One lady who's believed she's overweight for goodness knows how long in her life has finally seen that actually…she's an athlete.

That useless measure of BMI that we've always been told to use, and many still do, has told her she's overweight.

Even obese maybe.

Actually?

She carrying so much LEAN mass...so much of the "good stuff" as Louise brilliantly puts it...muscle, bone...all the tissue that helps us move so well.

Her body fat is bob on.

She's no visceral fat to concern herself with.

She is a FINE specimen of a human being (purely health-wise and anatomically speaking) although she's pretty bloody nice too ;-)

And she was able to go away, KNOWING that she's fit.

She's strong.

She's healthy (inside and out!).

She's strong bones.

She's lots of wonderful muscle.

She's NOT overweight.

She's heavy, yes.

But she's tall and needs a lot more muscle and bones than us shorties!

That's WHY she weighs a lot.

That's WHY she's not a size 10.

She never should be...and hopefully never will be!

She went away with a huge smile on her face.

And rightly so.

She's exercised smartly, frequently, consistently and eaten well with us for a while now.

That BMI scale was still telling her mistruths about what she'd achieved.

Louise was finally able to present her with the truth.

The real gift that she was striving for all along.

Health.

You know who you are...I couldn't be happier for you <3

If you want to know what's going on inside you, get in touch with Louise.

She came to me in December, hoping that, together, we could have a positive impact on the women we work with.

Whether that be a reassuring tick that they're on the right track...

...or some valuable data to motivate changes in behaviour,

that's happened time and time again.

On behalf of the Fit for Life family,

Thanks Lou
