Alcohol & Breast Cancer...are the two linked?

This might just be my most unpopular blog ever

But when it comes to reducing your risk of ever developing breast cancer, this subject has to be raised.

Along with maintaining a healthy weight, the biggest thing YOU can do to reduce your risk is to maintain a healthy intake of or reduce your alcohol consumption.

Sorry!!

But it's true.

Drinking alcohol increases levels of serum oestrogens.

Why might this be a problem?

Because oestrogens increase the risk of developing breast cancer due to their ability to promote cell division and promote growth of oestrogen-responsive tumours.

The more a cell divides, the more likely mutations will occur and accumulate.

The accumulation of particular mutations in breast cells can lead to breast cancer.

Not only that but when we break down alcohol in the body, we produce harmful by-products - acetaldehyde and reactive oxygen species.

Both of these can damage cells (they're known as carcinogens) and can accumulate in breast tissue.

So when it comes to alcohol, less really is better.

The less you can drink, the more you'll reduce your risk.

And if you're really struggling to either stop drinking or just reduce the amount you drink, I have a tip for you.

Read (or listen to) "This Naked Mind" by Annie Grace.

You can get it from Amazon (and other book retailers).

This book has changed the life (and health!) of many women (and men I've no doubt!).

Why not gift yourself a copy?

It might just change your life!

And if you didn't know, I delivered a webinar for our members on breast cancer prevention recently. If you'd like a recording, shoot me a message and I'll send it to you
